Digital Theatre
A new website has been launched this week offering internet users the chance to buy film copies of popular theatre productions.
Footage of performances by organisations such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court and Young Vic are all available from the site entitled Digital Theatre.
More than £1 million was invested by the private sector to kick-start the initiative, which will see high definition, full length films of stage shows go on sale for £8.99.
Young Vic's artistic director David Lan said: 'The combination of new technologies that promise filmed versions of productions that retain vitality and immediacy and producers who understand the needs of artists is a winning one.
'To create a filmed version of a show as eccentric and challenging as The Container, set in a shipping container, was a challenge. We thought if Digital Theatre can make this work, they can do anything. And they have.'
The films require specific software to work, which can be downloaded for free atwww.digitaltheatre.com.
